Hi from The Lighthouse children's home.
In the last three months we have been very busy at The Lighthouse! We are currently all busy in school and college and are working very hard to get a good education. This is the first time in over two years that all of us have been at education and we are very happy about it.
“Starting college was a big step for me, it is the first time I was in education in two years. It was really scary but I was excited to make friends”. (AAF-Young Person at the home)
“I had to leave my secondary school and start a brand new college, my last day was very sad and I miss my old teachers and friends, but I am so happy that I was pushed to go to college. In the last three months I have worked very hard to learn about independent travel and I have now started to go to college independently……I love the freedom I have earnt!” (CI-Young person at the home)
In the home this last month as part of our education programme we have been learning about “our bodies” and the different body parts we have. Did you know “The brain uses over a quarter of the oxygen used by the human body? ” It has been very interesting to learn about our body. (AAF Young Person)
"Our home recently had its Ofsted Inspection and rated our home as “Outstanding”. It is very exciting!!! We all helped in the inspection, I showed her around the home, we told her about the food menu’s we made. We basically picked all our favourite foods and put them in a menu. I chose goat curry”. (EA Young Person)
"We had an amazing Halloween this year, for the first time we went “Trick or Treating” in Surbiton this year. We got loads of chocolates and sweets which made us all very hyper. We also had a Halloween party with lots of music, party food and dancing. It was so much fun”
